Staff Controls Development & Commissioning Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Controls Development & Commissioning Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and commissioning of advanced automation and safety-critical control systems. This role will cover the entire project lifecycle, from initial design and planning to full-scale production ramp-up. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Siemens PLC programming, safety systems integration, and robotic automation, ensuring seamless deployment and operational readiness. 

This role requires a deep understanding of industrial control system design, functional safety implementation, and robotic cell integration to build a world-class manufacturing automation environment. 

Key Responsibilities 

Control System Design & Implementation 

  • Design and implement Siemens PLC control systems, including programming in TIA Portal and STEP 7. 

  • Develop and integrate safety instrumented systems (SIS) following IEC 61511/61508 standards. 

  • Configure and commission Siemens safety PLCs (F-CPUs) and fail-safe I/O modules. 

  • Integrate Siemens SIMATIC WinCC SCADA systems with plant-wide control architecture. 

Functional Safety & Compliance 

  • Implement and validate safety interlocks and emergency shutdown systems. 

  • Design and maintain safety integrity level (SIL) rated control loops. 

  • Develop functional safety architectures compliant with ISO 13849 and IEC 61508. 

  • Create and validate safety-related control systems for machine safeguarding. 

OPC UA & SCADA Integration 

  • Implement OPC UA server/client architectures for secure SCADA integration. 

  • Design and validate OPC UA security certificates and encryption protocols. 

  • Configure real-time data exchange between SCADA systems and OPC UA endpoints. 

Robotic Cell Integration & Validation 

  • Design and implement Fanuc robot cell integration, including: 

    • Robot controller communication via FANUC ROBOGUIDE. 

    • Safety-rated robot motion control and collision avoidance. 

    • Automated test sequences for iterative validation. 

    • Integration of robot safety systems with plant safety architecture. 

  • Establish communication protocols between robot controllers and plant systems. 

  • Design test automation frameworks for robotic cell validation. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Experience with OPC UA server/client architecture and security implementation. 

  • Knowledge of functional safety standards (ISO 13849, IEC 61508). 

  • Proven experience with Fanuc robot programming and integration. 

  • Understanding of robot safety systems and collaborative robot applications. 

  • Experience with automated testing frameworks for robotic systems. 

  • Knowledge of safety-rated motion control and machine safeguarding. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Fanuc robot programming certification. 

  • Experience with ROBOGUIDE simulation environment. 

  • Knowledge of collaborative robot safety requirements. 

  • Background in automated test development for robotic systems. 

  • Experience with robot vision systems integration. 

  • Familiarity with robot cell safety standards (ISO 10218). 

  • OPC UA security certification. 

  • Experience with safety-rated fieldbus protocols.
